How this is calculated — and how we checked it

Income tax, solidarity surcharge and church-tax base follow the official 2026 payroll-tax program (Programmablaufplan für den Lohnsteuerabzug 2026) published by the Federal Ministry of Finance on 12 November 2025. Our implementation reproduces all 516 values in the ministry's own reference tables (annual wage tax, tax classes I–VI, gross €5,000–€110,000, statutory and private insurance settings).

Social-insurance rates 2026 (employee share): pension 9.3% and unemployment 1.3% up to €101,400 a year; health 7.3% plus half of the insurer's extra contribution, and care 1.8% (plus 0.6% if childless and 23 or older; minus 0.25% per child from the second to the fifth under 25; Saxony 2.3%), up to €69,750 a year. Sources: Federal Ministry of Finance (rates and ceilings), Federal Ministry of Health (14.6% general rate, 2.9% average extra contribution), Federal Government (2026 contribution ceilings).

Assumptions: one employer, full year, the salary spread evenly over 12 months (a 13th salary or bonus is taxed differently on real payslips), no tax-free allowance, no private health insurance.

Not covered: Minijob and Midijob rules — below about €2,000 gross per month, special rules lower your social-insurance contributions and this calculator will show deductions that are too high. Also not covered: private health insurance, civil servants, Kindergeld, employer costs.

This applies to 2026. The ministry publishes new rules each November; we update this page when the 2027 program is released.
